Beaver Valley Trestle Board, June 2012

News from the Worshipful Master: Brethren, I would like to take the time to say thanks to the Brethren that stepped up to the plate last month to fill the stations at our stated meeting in my absence. We have several candidates that we are going to try and get their degrees before November. If you are available to help and would like to participate in getting these new candidates started ontheir Masonic journey please let me know. Due to lack of participation and very few people showing up I am going to cancel the stated meeting dinner in June. We will have our stated business meeting at 7:30 p.m. as usual, and we will discuss then if we should just continue to do the dinners or not. The Lodge is spending the money for the meat and such but no Brothers are coming to support except a few of the officers. If you have any suggestions please let me know. If anyone would like to attend any of our meetings and are unable to get their please do not hesitate to call myself or WB Partida and we will make sure you get a ride. Fraternally, WB Brian S Arnold Bkarnold1512@yahoo.com (937)212-4214 From the Secretary's Desk: Brethren, As always, should your mailing address, email address, telephone number, or other personal information change, please let me know immediately so I can change it in our official Lodge records. For those of you that have valid email accounts on record, the Trestle Board is available through email. This allows you to get your bulletin 2-3 weeks before you would receive it by “snail mail.” If do not receive the Trestle Board by email but would like to, please send me a message at the email address listed below and I can make sure you get added to the email list. Moore (614) 214-1432 jeffreymoore46@gmail.com Prophets, I would like to thank all the Prophets who came out to the Ceremonial and Monarch’s Ball on May 12. I would like to extend a personal thank you to Prophets George Dexter and Doug Miller, and Past Monarchs Jeff Shaw and Brian Arnold for helping me with the arrangements. And again, a very special thank you to our Chief Justice, Prophet George Dexter, who stepped in at the last minute to fill in for me when I was unable to attend due to a family injury. George has saved me on a number of occasions, and his friendly manner and willingness to help are what Masonry, and especially the Grotto, is all about. Thanks to Past Monarch Bruce Gardner, I have some good news to report: we have been able to renegotiate our rate with the Temple Board, and as a result we will no longer need to consider moving out of the temple at this time. This move was done to help keep Ormus Grotto financially secure for the foreseeable future. A motion was also made in February to raise our dues to $31.00 without an Enchanted Lantern, and $30.00 with a Lantern. Due to low attendance last month I tabled the vote on this issue, but since this month will be our last meeting before we go dark for the summer we will be voting on this in June no matter how many Prophets attend. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, June 5, at 8:00 P.M. at Beaver Valley Masonic Temple. I hope to see all the Prophets of Ormus Grotto in attendance that night. But in case I don’t see you there, have a safe and happy summer break and I’ll see you in September! And remember, the “G” also stands for Grotto! Fraternally, Jeffrey S. Moore, Monarch

May, 2012, Trestle Board Newsletter

News from the Worshipful Master: Brethren, Well, we thought we were going to stay warm but as I prepare this newsletter it’s cold and blustery outside. We have been busy trying to get several of our candidates through their degrees. If anyone is available to help out to do the charges and lectures, please let me know. We will be doing a FC degree next month on a Saturday and will need some help getting them done. Also, due to some personal issues with a few officers we have some open slots that need to get filled. If you are willing to step up and fill in please let me know – we could use the help. If you are interested in getting in line or back in line please come to the next stated meeting and get with me or Brother George Dexter, and we will get you into a slot and get your journey started as an officer. Being an officer is very rewarding and helps you learn what Freemasonry is all about, and it’s one of the duties that helps your lodge grow. Please come out and support your Lodge. We will be having fried chicken at the next stated meeting for the meal, so come out and have some fun and fellowship. Bring the family, and if you are able please try and remember to bring a covered dish so there is plenty of food for everyone. The last few months have been kind of sparse on the food, so please try to bring a dish with you to share. Letters will be sent out to those members who have not paid their dues. You are suspended from Masonry until you pay your dues; that excludes you from attending York rite, Scottish Rite or any other Masonic bodies. If you have questions please get a hold of us, we have given everyone ample time to pay their dues. As always, if you want to come to the meetings and have no way of getting there please get a hold of myself or WB Partida and we will see that you get a way to Lodge. Please plan to attend our May meeting to vote on this important issue. Our Spring Ceremonial will be held on May 12, 2012, at 3:00 p.m., in Springfield. Beaver Valley Trestle Board, April, 2012

News From The Worshipful Master:

Brethren,

Well, we have had a busy month - we have added three new brothers to our fraternity. I would like to personally thank the new brothers for taking their first step in Masonry. I hope that your journey will be as rewarding for you all as it has been for so many brothers around the world.

I would also like to thank the officers for making the extra commitment and getting two of our new brothers their degrees on Saturdays; due to their work schedule they are not available a lot through the week, so we are doing their degrees on Saturdays in order to get them through their degrees.

On Saturday, April, 21st, we will be doing to fellow craft degrees for these brothers. Please try to come out and support them. We will start the degrees at 3:00 p.m.

On April, 1st, Ormus Grotto will be having its annual Easter Party at the Temple. The Easter bunny will be there to see the kids. If at all possible, let’s try to get a lot of brothers out to support the children of the temple and Ormus Grotto, another dependant body of our Temple. All of the organizations are invited to attend and bring some children with you. For any information please get with Bro. Jeff Moore, Beaver Valley’s Senior Warden and Monarch of Ormus Grotto, for details.

As, always we will have our stated meeting the first Thursday of the month. On April, 5th there will be a meal at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. We will be having ham and potatoes this month. Please bring a covered dish to share and come out and have some good fellowship.

And as always, if you have trouble making it to lodge and need a ride please get a hold of myself or WB Al Partida, and we will see that you get away to lodge.

Prophets,

At our last meeting, the Prophets of Ormus Grotto voted to leave Beaver Valley Temple if the Temple Board could not match or better an offer from a local meeting hall. PM Bruce Gardner will be speaking to Temple Board about this matter on our behalf. A motion was also made to raise dues to $31.00 ($30.00 with an Enchanted Lantern). I have tabled this motion until our May meeting to allow all the Prophets of the Realm to be duly notified of this motion through the bulletin. The purpose of these actions is to prevent the persistent loss of funds seen over the past few years, and to secure the long term financial solvency of Ormus Grotto. Please plan to attend our May meeting to vote on this important issue.

On a lighter note, our annual Easter Party will be held on Sunday, April 1st, fro 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Prophet George Dexter will serve as our connection with the Easter Bunny again this year. PM Bruce will be handling the preparations for this party as I am unavailable this time of year due to my wife’s and my work schedules. If you would like to help him set up or purchase supplies, please call him at (937) 304-8764.

Our Spring Ceremonial will be held on May 12, 2012, at 3:00 p.m., in Springfield. 2012 Annual Inspection

Beaver Valley's annual Grand Lodge Inspection took place on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at 9:00 a.m. RWB Doug Boone was the inspecting officer, and there were a number of other brethren and distinguished Masons in attendance. Bro. Michael Williamson served as a pro tempore candidate for the EA degree, making this the 8th or 9th time he's been obligated!

The obligation was given by the Worshipful Master, WB Brian Arnold, the apron lecture was given by the Secretary, WB Al Partida, the degree lecture was given by the Senior Warden, Bro. Jeffrey Moore, and the charge was given by the Junior Deacon, Bro. Al Hurley.

RWB Boone gave a favorable report and a good day of Masonic fellowship was had by all in attendance.

We will try to post a group photo of the Lodge officers and Inspecting officers once they become available.

News From the Worshipful Master:

Brethren,

Well, it appears as if we have been lucky to escape “Old Man Winter” thus far. He has knocked a couple of times but I feel we have been lucky. I know spring is just around the corner, I heard the birds singing the other morning. Well, February has been a very busy month for us. On February 11, we hosted our annual awards night. RWB Boone was present to assist me in presenting the awards. We had about 25 brethren receiving awards this year for years of dedicated service to our Lodge and Fraternity. We had two 60 year members and three 50 year members along with a lot of 40, 35, & 25 year awards. We gave a special award to Brother Harold Stanaford for all the years of dedicated service he has shown by preparing all of the candidates for their degrees. Once again, I send a big THANK YOU to Harold for all of his work to the brethren of the Lodge.

On February 18, we held our annual inspection. I was very pleased with the turn out we had. I think we had around 65+ brethren in attendance. I would like to take the time to say thanks again to the officers. You all did a great job this year. For most of us being new I think it went very well. Your hard work paid off and has not gone unnoticed. I would also like to thank Brother Mike Williamson for being our candidate once again.

Our next meeting will be our stated meeting in March. The meal will be provided by Kay Cowen, which will be her famous beef stroganoff. I can’t wait for that. We have two new petitions to vote on this month so hopefully the last two weeks of March we can have their EA degrees completed.

As always if you need a ride to make it to the meetings please get a hold of me or WB Al Partida and we will see that you get to lodge,

Prophets

As I mentioned in the bulletin last month, and as we’ve talked about at our last two meetings, we will be discussing our financial situation. Several ideas have been floated in the last few months, such as asking for a rent reduction, raising our dues, and even looking for a new location to meet. We will be finalizing whatever actions we plan to take at this meeting. Any and all suggestions for making the Grotto financially solvent will be heard and considered. Obviously, this will have an impact on all of us, so I hope you will all be able to come out and make your opinion heard. If you would like to attend this meeting or any other meeting but are concerned about transportation, please let me know and I will work with the other prophets to find a ride for you.

On a lighter note, plans are already in place for our Spring Ceremonial. As in the past, we will hold the ceremonial at the Springfield Masonic Temple in conjunction with Khana Shahar Grotto. The Ceremonial will be Saturday, May 12, at 3:00 p.m. Ormus Grotto will be responsible for the first and third sections of the Ceremonial and Khana Shahar will perform the esotery. We will finalize our “cast list” as we get a little closer to the appointed day.

We are also looking into having our Monarch’s Ball that same evening. I will have more details once those plans have been finalized.

As always, if you know any Master Masons in good standing who would like to become a Veiled Prophet, please let me know. It’s been awhile since we’ve had any new members and it would be nice to get a little “new blood” into the Grotto, especially at the Spring Ceremonial

Jeffrey S. Moore, Monarch

Beaver Valley Trestle Board for February, 2012

News from the Worshipful Master:

Hello Brethren,

I hope that you have all made it thru the cold winter months so far. I think we have been blessed thus far, not having too much white stuff falling from the sky. We have been busy working on our inspection degree, and I hope everyone can come out and show the support to the new officers. We have a whole new line up this year with a lot of new officers, so it will be good to see them advance through the line over the next few years. It is always nice to see a change; new faces mean new ideas.

I would like to invite all of the brothers and their families to the Lodge on February, 11, 2012 at 6:00 p.m., for our awards night. It will be an open awards night so your family can come see you receive your awards. We will open Lodge around 5:45 and then take a break and bring the families up. We will start the awards around 6:00 p.m. There are a lot of brethren receiving awards this year a few 50 & 60 year members. RWB Doug Boone will be present to present these members with their awards. So if you can come and show them your support, I am sure they would appreciate it; I’m sure there will be plenty of good stories to hear. We will follow up with refreshments.

On February, 18, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. we will have our annual inspection. We will be portraying the EA degree this year. We will have coffee and doughnuts at 8:00a.m, then we will have lunch provided by Knowlwood Lodge. They, too, will be doing there inspection in the EA degree at 12:00 p.m. Please come out and support both of these Lodges.

After 20+ years, WB Steve Scarpelli has retired from preparing our Lodge bulletin and our Sr. Warden, Bro. Jeffrey Moore, will be taking over. Please be patient with Bro. Moore as he learns the ropes of the bulletin over the next few months. If you know of anyone who does not get their bulletin, please let Bro. Moore know. He can be reached at (614) 214-1432 and by e-mail at jeffreymoore46@gmail.com
I hope to see a lot of new faces in lodge this year and if you need a ride to any of the meetings please feel free to call myself or WB Partida and we will make sure you get a ride.

Prophets

Weather permitting, our next meeting will be Tuesday, February 7, 2011, at 8:00 p.m. I hope to see all the prophets of the realm come out. Our February meeting has been canceled the last two years due to inclement weather but so far this winter hasn’t been too bad, so I’m hoping our luck will hold out and the meeting can proceed as scheduled.

I would like to start discussing plans for the annual Monarch’s Ball at our February meeting. If you have any ideas or suggestions about where to have the Ball, or what vendors to hire, please come to the meeting to discuss these details with us. Last year, PM Jeff Shaw helped us arrange to have the Ball at the Elks Lodge, where he is also a member, and Prophet Doug Miller helped us find a more budget friendly DJ. I thank these Prophets for their input and look forward to getting the planning under way. I will also be contacting Khana Shahar Grotto soon to begin arrangements for our Spring Ceremonial. Check back later for more details on both of these events.

At our January meeting, we continued to discuss our budget issues. We asked for and received a rent reduction from Beaver Valley Temple Board, but this reduction alone was not enough to keep Ormus Grotto from losing money. I have tabled further discussion on this topic until our March meeting, but at that time it is my intention to come up with a plan to make our organization fiscally stable so we can continue to meet and work for years to come. We have discussed fund raisers, raising dues, and finding a more cost effective meeting place. Please plan to come to our March meeting and share your thoughts, as the outcome of this meeting will have an impact on all of us.

Prophets,

I am pleased and honored to serve as Monarch for 2012. We had a great installation in Springfield with the prophets of Khana Shahar Grotto on December 9, and a Christmas party at the Temple on December 17. Prophet Santa Claus once again came to the party to hand out gifts to the kids; a special thank you goes out to Prophet Mike Williamson for being our North Pole connection again this year.

My goals this year are to increase our membership and get more existing members to come out to our meetings. If you know of anyone who wants to become a Prophet of the Enchanted Realm, please let me know. Also, if you want to attend our meeting and need a ride, I would be happy to find transportation. I hope to see a full house at our next meeting on January 3.

We have been discussing the Grotto’s finances for the last few meetings. We are desperately looking for ways to cut costs and bring in more revenue. If you know of any fundraising opportunities or ideas please let me know ASAP. Grotto might be the Mason’s playground, but that playground needs money for repairs and upkeep.

I look forward to a great year, and with the help of my officers I think we can accomplish a lot. And remember, “G” also stands for Grotto!
